ABOUT 

Hi, I'm Susan, and I started Type A Essays in 2023, the summer after my twins' freshman years in college. What began as a 6-week experiment editing dozens of essays, quickly evolved into a calling to help students stand out in today's competitive college apps and internship processes.

I have a unique background in persuasive writing/speaking, a love of books and language, extensive hiring/resume experience, and have navigated the modern college apps process as a parent.  I love connecting with students, and helping them find their best opportunities.

  1. Education: B.S.-Electrical Engineering from a large land grant university

  2. Career focus: Semiconductor industry, Silicon Valley – tech sales, bus dev, product mktg, mgmt

  3. Most unusual job: Skycap at Chicago's O’Hare airport

  4. 1st car: 1972 VW super bug - stick shift, hole in the floor, baby blue + rust

  5. 100s/100s/1000s:  #persuasive proposals written/#resumes reviewed + interviews/#books read

  6. Favorite organizational tools:  Spreadsheets, spiral-bound day planner, iCalendar

  7. Personal productivity practices:  Take action. Make a list. Do most annoying thing 1st.

  8. Lessons learned/mantras: Baby steps. One thing at a time. Hope is not a strategy. You can do it.
